About Asthma - the quick facts

Asthma is an illness that kills approximately 400 Australians every year, and although there are medications available that allow sufferers to manage their condition, there is no cure for asthma.

Asthma is the leading chronic health condition in Australia which has amongst the highest rate of sufferers in the world. It is amonst the top reasons for childhood hospitalisation and school absenteeism.  Not restricted to younger age groups, 1 in 10 adults are affected by asthma. Asthma costs the community an estimated $1 billion dollars annually in medical fees and lost productivity.

Why Bubbles?

Asthma restricts a person's airways when exposed to certain 'triggers' with the minimum result being shortness of breath and heavily laboured breathing. The event's light-hearted concept of bubbles of air connects with the underlying seriousness of the Foundation's cause and our aim to 'Blow Asthma Away'.
